Grants and financial assistance

Several financial assistance programs can help reduce the cost of your accessibility renovations, depending on your situation. Whether through the Home Adaptation Program (PAD), the SAAQ, or the CNESST, it is sometimes possible to obtain financial support for the installation of equipment that promotes mobility, safety, and independence.

At Mobilatec Elevators, we help you better understand the available subsidies and plan your project accordingly.

Home Adaptation Program (PAD) – Government of Quebec

The Home Adaptation Program (PAD), administered by the Société d'habitation du Québec (SHQ), provides financial assistance to homeowners or tenants to adapt their homes to the needs of a person with a disability or reduced mobility. habitation.gouv.qc.ca

  • Significant and persistent medical condition attested to by an occupational therapist.

  • Complete file before starting work. In Motion

Financial assistance may be available

The amounts vary depending on the option chosen and the scope of the work.

  1. Professional support – The most comprehensive and often the highest level of assistance:

    • Up to approximately $16,000 and more depending on assessed needs (some sources mention additional possibilities of up to ~$33,000 or more depending on criteria).

  2. Self-determined needs and tasks – For lighter tasks:

    • More modest aid (for example up to $8,000).

  3. Retroactive financial assistance – For work already carried out in the last 12 months:

    • Up to approximately $4,000 (depends on eligible criteria and costs).

The work may include the installation of specialized equipment (lifting platforms, electric door openers, patient lifts, etc.) when justified by the occupational therapist.

SAAQ

2.
SAAQ – Home adaptation measures for road accident victims

The Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec ( SAAQ ) reimburses certain costs related to home modifications for individuals with limited mobility due to a road accident.

Objective

Helping people who have suffered an injury following a road accident to adapt their homes to improve accessibility and daily safety.

Eligibility

  • Physical injury caused by a road accident.

  • Significant disability affecting safe access to or use of the home.

  • Adaptation project approved in advance by the SAAQ (including evaluation by occupational therapist).

Refunds

The SAAQ reimburses all or part of the eligible costs related to the necessary modifications, including:

  • standard materials and labor for validated adaptations;

  • purchase and installation of approved specialized equipment;

  • costs of certain required legal documents.

The modifications must be authorized in advance by the SAAQ before undertaking the work.

CNESST LOGO

3.
CNESST – Measures related to home adaptations for injured workers

The CNESST (Commission des normes, de l'équité, de la santé et de la sécurité du travail) may offer reimbursements or allowances in the context of a work-related injury, including social rehabilitation measures, potentially including home adaptation according to the established rehabilitation plan.

In what context?

  • Home adaptation can be part of a social rehabilitation plan following a work-related injury, designed to help the person regain their independence.

What the CNESST can reimburse or offer

  • Reimbursement of certain costs related to adapted equipment or services required after a work accident (for example: technical aids).

  • Allowance for personal assistance at home according to the needs related to the injury (variable monthly amounts).

  • Reimbursements for certain routine home maintenance work in specific cases, if authorized by the CNESST.

Unlike the PAD or the SAAQ, the CNESST does not offer a specific standardized home adaptation subsidy, but rather reimbursement plans and support measures within the framework of a work injury case.
